On the internal multivariate quality control of analytical laboratories. A case study: the quality of drinking water

2001

Abstract Multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) tools, based on principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares (PLS) regression and other regression models, are used in the present study for automatic detection of possible errors in the methods used for routine multiparametric analysis in order to design an internal Multivariate Analytical Quality Control (iMAQC) program. Such tools could notice possible failures in the analytical methods without resorting to any external reference since they use their own analytical results as a source for the diagnosis of the method's quality. Pseudo-univariate control charts provide an attractive alternative to traditional univariate …

PCR-DGGE fingerprints of microbial succession during a manufacture of traditional water buffalo mozzarella cheese.

2004

D . E R C O L I N I , G . M A U R I E L L O , G . B L A I O T T A , G . M O S C H E T T I A N D S . C O P P O L A . 2003. Aims: To monitor the process and the starter effectiveness recording a series of fingerprints of the microbial diversity occurring at different steps of mozzarella cheese manufacture and to investigate the involvement of the natural starter to the achievement of the final product. Methods and Results: Samples of raw milk, natural whey culture (NWC) used as starter, curd after ripening and final product were collected during a mozzarella cheese manufacture. Total microbial DNA was directly extracted from the dairy samples as well as bulk colonies collected from the plates…

BAG3 Proteomic Signature under Proteostasis Stress

2020

The multifunctional HSP70 co-chaperone BAG3 (BCL-2-associated athanogene 3) represents a key player in the quality control of the cellular proteostasis network. In response to stress, BAG3 specifically targets aggregation-prone proteins to the perinuclear aggresome and promotes their degradation via BAG3-mediated selective macroautophagy. To adapt cellular homeostasis to stress, BAG3 modulates and functions in various cellular processes and signaling pathways. Noteworthy, dysfunction and deregulation of BAG3 and its pathway are pathophysiologically linked to myopathies, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders. Here, we report a BAG3 proteomic signature under proteostasis stress. To elucidat…

QUALITY SYSTEM FOR PRODUCTION SOFTWARE (QSPS): AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF PRODUCTION SOFTWARE

2013

A quality system for production software should be part of the quality management system of an organization and can be expressed as objectives in the form of processes, procedures, tools and responsibilities, designed and developed to fulfil the quality requirements. These usually are addressing the customers (external or internal), compliance with standards (effectiveness) waste reduction and better use of resources (efficiency) for continual improvement. Such systems are designed according to the requirements of the standards for quality management, software engineering and information security. Quality systems themselves could not provide all necessary means for driving the organization…

Automatic Quality Assessment of Cardiac MR Images with Motion Artefacts using Multi-task Learning and K-Space Motion Artefact Augmentation

2022

The movement of patients and respiratory motion during MRI acquisition produce image artefacts that reduce the image quality and its diagnostic value. Quality assessment of the images is essential to minimize segmentation errors and avoid wrong clinical decisions in the downstream tasks. In this paper, we propose automatic multi-task learning (MTL) based classification model to detect cardiac MR images with different levels of motion artefact. We also develop an automatic segmentation model that leverages k-space based motion artefact augmentation (MAA) and a novel compound loss that utilizes Dice loss with a polynomial version of cross-entropy loss (PolyLoss) to robustly segment cardiac st…

Quality for Global Knowledge-Intensive Organizations: A Step-by-Step Guide

2009

Learning and education as well as knowledge-intensive work processes have become more and more internationalized. Knowledge workers are distributed around the world, study programs are exported across borders, and learners work in globally distributed groups. However, the quality of their work differs in many cases. In this paper, an approach to manage quality within the process of internationalization for globally distributed knowledge-intensive organizations (such as universities) is presented. A particular focus is the field of e-Learning. The key quality factors for internationalization of global learning are defined and examples for quality criteria resulting from these factors are int…

Quality System for Production Software as Tool for Monitoring and Improving Organization KPIs

2013

In this paper we propose a solution as support for quality systems for production software. The motivation behind this study was to reduce that cost in the production area caused by gaps in the quality of the production software. Our proposal: QSPS (Quality System for Production Software) is offering support in the "vulnerable points" of these quality systems which usually generate nonconformities and have proved to be difficult or impossible to control. QSPS is a method in seven steps or modules that integrates also software tools, templates, checklists, evaluating tools elaborated complying to products, process and system quality standards. If other analyzed methods like: Scrum, XP, Fuzzy…

The Comparison of Software Reliability Assessment Models

2015

Abstract The reliability of the software represents one of the most important attributes of software quality, and the estimation of the reliability of the software is a problem hard to solve with accuracy. Nevertheless, in order to manage the quality of the software and of the standard practices in an organization, it is important to achieve an estimation of the reliability as accurate as possible. In the present work there are described the principles and techniques which underlie the estimation of the reliability of the software, starting from the definition of the concepts which express the attributes of software quality. It is taken into account the issue of the estimation of a software…

Issues in e-learning quality assurance

2011

As a decisive factor, the future of any discipline rests on quality, and e-learning is no exception. Due to its multidisciplinary nature, the contribution from various fields such as education, technology, and economy are needed to achieve quality, thereby creating rich learning experience. Undertaking such a task is challenging according to Pawlowski and Ehler (2006) because "it is necessary to find a valid perspective and definition of quality. This requires an answer to the question for which processes of educational scenario quality development has to be carried out, which quality and according to which perspective it is defined." Being diverse and situational/context dependent, there s…
